GOD’S
LOVING-KINDNESS
Scripture Reading: Psalm 63:3 – “Because Your
lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You.”
Introduction
Beloved in Christ, today we meditate on one of the sweetest
truths in all of Scripture—the loving-kindness of God. This phrase
appears again and again in the Bible, especially in the Psalms, describing
God’s steadfast love, mercy, and compassion toward His children.
In a world filled with harshness, uncertainty, and fleeting
love, the loving-kindness of God shines like a lighthouse, guiding us to safety
and giving us hope.
1. The Nature of God’s Loving-Kindness
- The
Hebrew word often translated as loving-kindness is “hesed”,
which means steadfast love, covenant mercy, and unfailing kindness.
- It
is not based on our worthiness but on God’s nature. “The LORD is
gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy”
(Psalm 145:8).
- Human
kindness can be inconsistent, but God’s loving-kindness never changes.
2. Loving-Kindness in Salvation
- God’s
loving-kindness is most clearly revealed in Jesus Christ.
- John
3:16 tells us: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only
begotten Son…”
- On
the cross, God’s mercy and love met together. His loving-kindness did not
leave us in sin but reached down to lift us up.
3. Loving-Kindness in Our Daily Lives
- God’s
loving-kindness is not just for salvation—it is for every day.
- Lamentations
3:22-23 says: “Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed,
because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is
Your faithfulness.”
- Each
sunrise is a reminder of His fresh mercies.
- When
we are weak, His kindness strengthens us. When we fail, His mercy restores
us.
4. Our Response to God’s Loving-Kindness
- Praise:
David said, “Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips
shall praise You” (Psalm 63:3). Gratitude should flow from our hearts.
- Trust:
If God has shown us such kindness in the past, we can trust Him for the
future.
- Imitation:
God calls us to reflect His loving-kindness to others—through forgiveness,
compassion, and generosity.
Conclusion
Dear brothers and sisters, God’s loving-kindness is better
than life itself. It is eternal, unchanging, and freely given to all who call
upon Him. Let us rest in His mercy, rejoice in His grace, and reflect His love
in our homes, churches, and communities.
Let us leave today with the words of Psalm 36:7:
“How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men
put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.”
Amen.
